Missing 3-year-old Fayetteville girl found safe at neighbor's house

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A missing 3-year-old Fayetteville girl was found safe at a neighbor's home Friday afternoon, Fayetteville police said.

Shaniya Hawkins was found to be missing Thursday from her home in the 6200 block of Lakehaven Drive, police said.

Police were going door-to-door around 4:30 p.m. when they approached a residence three houses down from Hawkins' home. The owner of that residence came home from work at that time. Hawkins' walked out of the front door when the homeowner opened the door, police said.

Fayetteville police said she entered the neighbor's home through an unlocked back door.

Hawkins was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center as a precaution.

No further information was released.
