ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Many people are excited for the homecoming of the 611 in two weeks but there is another surprise for rail enthusiasts.
On Sunday May 31, Norfolk and Western's "big three" class of locomotives will be reunited. It'll be the first time in 60 years the 611, Class A 1218, and Class Y6a 2156 are back together.
They were all designed at the East End shops in Roanoke.
"It's just going to be a great time for Roanoke to really celebrate what this city has done in the past and what we did in the railroad industry is still talked about today," says Peg Mcguire, Virginia Museum of Transportation.
