What's News Today: May 29, 2017

Here's a look at some of the stories we'll be following today

The Bedford D-Day Memorial holds Memorial Day Observance.  Hershel "Woody" Williams, one of the five living Medal of Honor recipients from World War II will deliver the keynote address.  Williams will also help unveil the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument.  The monument will serve as a reminder of the sacrifice that families make when a loved one is lost while serving the country.

The City of Radford holds its annual Memorial Day Service.  The 59 people from Radford, who lost their lives in battle, will be honored.  Delegate Joseph Yost and Radford Arsenal Commander Lieutenant Colonel Alicia Masson will speak.  American Legion Post 776 will fire a 21 gun salute at the end of the service.

A Memorial Day ceremony takes place today in Appomattox.  The ceremony commemorates veterans and the families of those who lost their lives.  The keynote speaker is Captain Don Jones, U.S. Army retired.  He is a Bristol, Va. Native, who served in Vietnam.  The service starts at 11 a.m. At Court House Square.

Delegate Les Adams will speak today at Martinsville's Memorial Day Ceremony.  This is the third year for the event.  It begins at 10:30 a.m. at the entrance to the People's Cemetary.

The Class J 611 will travel the rails today.  There are two excursions, one at 8 a.m. and the other at 2 p.m.  Both will travel from Roanoke to Radford.
