Celebrations planned for Dirty Dancing's 30th anniversary

GILES COUNTY (WSLS 10) - It's hard to believe, but this August marks the 30th anniversary of "Dirty Dancing," filmed in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Filmed on location at Mountain Lake Lodge in Giles County, hundreds are expected to come to the area in August for anniversary celebrations.

This iconic gazebo will be the center of attention at the 30th anniversary celebration.

The lodge is offering movie fans the chance to stay on the set of the movie, including a tour of Baby's cabin and the fictional Kellerman resort.

General Manager of Mountain Lake Lodge Heidi Stone said so far, three weekends themed for the movies anniversary have been booked solid at the lodge.

"The buzz has been going on for quite a while for the 30th anniversary," Stone said. "One the first nights of the Dirty Dancing weekends in our gazebo, we are transforming it just like the movie. And so your first night, the Friday night that you are here on the weekends, the lights and music will be out on the gazebo which will be really fun. You will really feel like you will be in the movie."

Because those weekends are booked already, Mountain Lake Lodge has opened the event up to a fourth weekend in August.
