Florida residents board up, preparing for Hurricane Matthew

WESH - BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WESH) - Mandatory evacuations for some residents of Florida's Brevard County are set to begin Wednesday afternoon.

Residents living on the barrier islands, including Merritt Island, and low-lying, flood-prone areas and in mobile or manufactured homes, will be asked to leave their homes beginning at 3 p.m.

Shelters are being prepared to hold them.

Brevard and Volusia County schools, government offices and courthouse will close Thursday and Friday.
