Built in the Blue Ridge: Magnets USA
(WSLS 10) - For a quarter century, Vinton based Magnets USA has helped businesses across the U.S. and Canada spread their message one magnet at a time.
“We do marketing products like magnetic calendars, we do sports schedules,” said company founder Dale Turner.
The products come in all shapes and sizes with content that fits an individual need.
“These are some of our calendar products. What we do is, the top part is the magnet, and we print the customer’s information here and then we have over 20 different designs of calendars,” said Turner.
The designs cover everything from quotes to calendars, sport schedules and recipes.
Every year 10 million go out the door.
In the company's 25 year history, they've made a quarter of a billion.
The company got its start doing magnets, but it's now starting to expand into new lines including life-long cutlery and gifts.
The gift lines range from cutlery sets to a keepsake wine box and stainless steel soap with custom engraving to last forever.
“We see that as being a market that's not well tapped out yet, so we're very aggressively moving into that area,” said Turner.
It’s aggressive growth that's supported by a loyal work force of 60 full-time employees, who work together for a common goal.
“There's a family feeling here at Magnets USA. It's not really something you can describe in words. We're all in this together. We're working together for a common goal that we're giving the customer a great experience and enable them to grow their own business,” said IT Manager Jay Forrester.
Working together in a place they're proud to call home.
“I love Roanoke. It's a great place to live. We've found a lot talented people here in the Roanoke Valley. We don't care to move anywhere else,” said Turner.
Last year, the company moved into its current 44,000 square foot facility in Vinton.
What's surprised them is how quickly it has filled up, so further expansion is possible in the future.
