BBB warns of new phishing scam claiming federal violations

Emails could infect computers with malware

ROANOKE, Va. – The Better Business Bureau has issued a warning about a new phishing scam.

Scammers are using the BBB name and logo in emails to fraudulently claim companies are violating the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Safety and Health Act, among others.

The emails ask the recipient to click a link, which may be used to download malware that can infect your computer, steal your passwords or hack a company's records.

"You don't want to click links like that unless it specifically says it's coming from the BBB in western Virginia. We have a very specific way we send our complaint information out," said Julie Wheler, Better Business Bureau Serving Western Virginia president.

If you get the email, delete it immediately. Click here for more tips from the BBB.
