Pope Francis seeks to alter line in 'Our Father'

Pope: 'That is not a good translation'

VATICAN CITY – Pope Francis, in a recent interview, said the Catholic Church should adopt a better translation of a line in the "Our Father" prayer, Reuters reports.

He says "lead us not into temptation" is not a good translation because God does not lead humans to sin, the BBC reports.

"That is not a good translation," Reuters reported the pope said in TV interview on Wednesday.

According to the Reuters report, Francis said the Catholic Church in France is using "do not let us fall into temptation" as an alternative and indicated that it or something similar should be applied worldwide.

"Do not let me fall into temptation because it is I who fall, it is not God who throws me into temptation and then sees how I fell," Francis told TV2000, BBC reports.

"A father does not do that, a father helps you to get up immediately."

"The Lord's Prayer" is a translation from Latin, which was translated from ancient Greek, which was translated from Aramaic, the language Jesus spoke, Reuters reported.
