ROANOKE – The secrets behind tasty Fried Green Tomatoes from organizers of the EastMont Tomato Festival happening this weekend in Shawsville.

 

Fried Green Tomato Recipe

Ingredients:

Seasoned Flour

Cornmeal

Buttermilk

Green Tomatoes, sliced in 1/3 inch slices

Oil for frying

 

Mix equal amounts of seasoned flour and cornmeal in a large bowl.

Pour buttermilk into a shallow bowl.

Heat electirc skillet or griddle to high. Coat with oil.

Dip slices of tomatoes in buttermilk. It is ok to let them soak for a few minutes.

Shake off excess buttermilk and coat on both sides with seasoned flour and cornmeal mixture.

Place on griddle and fry on each side until golden brown. Add oil as necessary.
