To help, Virginia Tech and Carilion will hold a job fair Thursday, hoping to reach out to some of those individuals who are facing unemployment.

In total, the organizations have 500 jobs available, ranging from entry-level positions to high-paying jobs.

Carilion Human Resources Director Debra Lovelace said the job fair will focus on several key positions including IT, payroll and marketing. Lovelace said Carilion hopes that, together, the regions two largest employers can offer a job to those affected by recent layoffs.

"We thought that if we could support the community economically and we could share those jobs with some of the people who are forced to make the decision to move or not, then we wanted to do that," Lovelace said.

The job fair is from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 12 at the Cambria Hotel and Suites on Reserve Avenue in Roanoke.
