Future unclear for Kmart and Sears

NBC – ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The future of Sears and Kmart is up in the air.

Sears Holdings, the owner of Sears and Kmart, says there's "substantial doubt" it'll be able to keep its doors open, following years of losses and declining sales.

It recently sold its Craftsman tool brand and also is considering selling the Kenmore appliances and Diehard car battery brands.

Sears was once the largest retailer, but now has a mountain of debt, struggling with rising competition from Walmart, Target and other retailers.

It hasn't turned an annual profit since 2011.
