Marching Virginians get first look at new training facility
BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - After years of planning, fundraising and constructing, the Marching Virginians started practice in their new training facility Monday.
The opening of the facility marked a new chapter in the band's history and the sounds ringing from Chicken Hill were as sweet as ever.
After 40 plus years playing all over campus, the Marching Virginians have their own address. When you ask band members and leaders what the 7,000 square foot facility is to them, almost all say the same thing. It's home.
Seeing it for the first time was quite overwhelming for many. Dave McKee has directed the Marching Virginians for 30 years. He recalled the conversation in 2006 that lead to the nearly $5 million facility.
For band members, they're most excited about having restrooms. Yes, restrooms. But with room for growth, restrooms and all are just the beginning.
