ROANOKE (WSLS 10 ) - The 2nd Annual Virginia Science Festival is Saturday. Dozens of activities and booths will be set up in downtown Roanoke.

Organizers have worked to make every station hands-on, in an effort to engage and interest young students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.

Jim Rollings, Executive Director of the Science Museum of Western Virginia, says "In the future the best paying jobs, if you want to put this in a practical sense, are going to be STEM based careers. It's just a fact."

His hope is that young students will walk away from the festival with a new appreciation for Science and STEM jobs.

According to Trailblazers analysis of information from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, The Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics industries are expected to employ approximately 98,000 Virginians by 2022. That's up 11,000 people from 2012.

The Science Festival will run from 10am – 4pm on Saturday.

Events are also planned in Blacksburg.

Admission is free.
