Liberty University lead candidate to host the Republican presidential primary debate
LYNCHBURG (WSLS 10) - Some big news for our area. Liberty University is the leading candidate to host the Republican presidential primary debate. If selected the top candidates would head to Lynchburg for the debate early January.
The Republican National Committee Chief Strategist Sean Spicer would not say when deal would be reached. But, did admit negotiations are in the final stages.
Residents are excited at the prospect and agree that Liberty is a good location for the debate.
"I think it's great," said Lynchburg resident Brenda Hinton. "They have a nice place where they can set up and people can talk. And, in case they have a large crowd come in they have enough room for parking and for everybody to get in."
Liberty University has declined to talk about the deal until things are finalized.
