Roanoke County getting students ready for new SAT test
ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - High school students are taking the new SAT test. Many of you can remember the hard vocabulary words on the test but those are gone!
With the re-designed test students are able to answer questions based on what they know or learn. There is an essay but It is not required. A student can make a perfect score without the essay but Roanoke County School counseling services coordinator Taisha Steele encourages students write the essay because many of the more competitive schools want to see students writing.
There is no longer a "super score" where you can combine the best parts of each test to get a higher overall score. The highest score on the previous test was 2400 and it's now 1600.
"There are mixed feelings about the test. I think students are excited that the test has been redesigned and that they feel it's not going to be as tricky, they will actually have the ability to be successful on this test but anytime there's a change there is some anxiety involved," said Steele.
Roanoke County still has openings for the SAT Prep classes for the June test. More information can be found in this link.
