ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Schools across the area are gearing up for the SOL tests.
Roanoke County 8th and 10th grade took the writing assessment last month. As the big testing window opens in May there are three things students and parents need to be doing now.
1) Attend. Be in class so you're there when the teachers are going over things that will be on the test question.
2) Ask questions. If you're not understanding things clearly, work with your teachers to get the information.
3) Get plenty of rest.
"I know this is a tough time of year. The weather is getting warm and students are wanting to be out and just enjoying each other and being social but this is also the time of year when they need lots of rest so they can prepare for these tests," said Taisha Steele, Roanoke County Schools Counseling Services Coordinator.
Testing schedules are on the school website. You can check those to make sure your kids are getting plenty of rest and breakfast.
