New technology gets Covington High School students interested in research

COVINGTON (WSLS 10) - Some Covington High School students are going to class every day and traveling around the world, while never leaving the building.

It's all thanks to new technology, Google Expedition Glasses.

The glasses give a 3D perspective of anywhere in the world.

English teacher Sara Zeek assigned students a project to research different locations.

Initially, students thought it would be much of the same, but to their surprise, this technology added a whole new element.

"It's more interesting than doing textbook work and worksheets," explained junior Morgan Tucker.

"The more things we can find to give our kids a different opportunity to experience different things and it was able to be able to tie this into the instruction pretty easily," said Principal Derek Cantrell.

The school was able to purchase the kit of 20 through a program called Gear Up to prepare 9th graders for college.
