ROANOKE – If you moved this summer, don't wait until the first day of class to register your kids.

Schools say every year, people bring in new students on the very first day and it gets hectic.

Roanoke City Schools director of school counseling Taisha Steele says parents should register children now and they will have a lot of homework the first week.

"Parents may be surprised to see a stack of paperwork when they come home from school on the first day. Especially if they have more than one child the paperwork can be a little daunting but it is important for the paperwork to be completed and returned to the school as soon as possible," said Steele.

There are emergency forms and information to make sure the child has everything they need.  Many school systems also have online forms you can fill out before school even starts.
