Roanoke County school counselor has fun with yearbook pictures

Hated picture day, but now dresses up

ROANOKE COUNTY – School picture day is sometimes dreaded when kids are in school, but one Roanoke County school counselor feels the same way.

"I loathe yearbook pictures as an adult, and so a couple of years ago I had the idea of changing my perspective to where I could look forward to yearbook pictures. Every year for our school picture day I dress up," said Virginia Vann, a Burlington Elementary School counselor.

The Roanoke County counselor dressed up in pink, with big glasses, last year for the yearbook pictures.  This year, she is a rocker, playing a blow-up guitar.

Now students come up and ask what she is going to do for yearbook pictures.

"Sometimes they try to sneak a peek on picture day to see what I'm wearing. It's really fun and the kids enjoy it. It's a great opportunity to be silly and shows school counselors can have fun too," said Vann.

She plans to continue the tradition next year.
