ROANOKE (WSLS10) - It is only a week away from one of area's biggest charity fundraisers of the season, Valley Stars.
Familiar faces from the Roanoke Valley will be dancing their hearts out to raise money for the Salvation Army Turning Point, the only secure shelter for victims of domestic violence and their families.
WSLS 10's Rachel Lucas is competing with her dance partner and instructor Dennis Williams of the Sapphire Ballroom in Christiansburg. They have been practicing for about three months, and raising money for the charity. Three winners will be selected for the event including "Valley Star" for the participant that raises the most
money, "Judges pick" and "Audience pick."
All money raised in Rachel's red kettle will be given to the late Alison Parker's total so she can help Parker be named "Valley Star." Parker was a fierce competitor in Valley Star's 2015 event.
In addition to donations, tickets can be purchased for $100 to the event.
Tickets include a meal and drinks. The proceeds from those tickets will be added to the stars total.
The event is Saturday, September 26 at 7 p.m. at the Jefferson Ballroom in Roanoke.
Tickets and donations can be purchased here.
