Susan G. Komen, Virginia Blue Ridge seeks 1008 donations in 24 hours
BLACKSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Blue Ridge affiliate of Susan G. Komen is trying to meet a challenge which will net the group an $8,000 gift.
Komen Give Day is a challenge on October 8, to get 1008 donations in a 24 hour period. The affiliate will get the $8,000 if it reaches the required number of donations.
All gifts, regardless of amount, count toward the goal.
Give Day tables are set up on the campus of Virginia Tech, Radford University and Washington and Lee University Thursday.
The team hosting the table at Virginia Tech is not new to Komen. The team collecting donations on the Tech campus has been supporting Komen since October 2014 when it launched a Rocket for the Cure fundraiser in honor of a friend's mother who battled breast cancer. The students broke a world record for the largest simultaneous model rocket launch in which 4000 rockets "in memory" or "in honor" of cancer victims were launched.
""We've had 90 donors so far," Sanzio Angeli said juts after noon Thursday. "So for Virginia Tech alone as a single spot for donors, it's been awesome."
Komen is also partnering with Chick-fil-A and will have tables set up at the three freestanding Roanoke locations, inside Valley View Mall and the Salem location through 7pm Thursday.
