SALEM, Va. - Feeding America Southwest Virginia is joining a national retailer to fight hunger.

The nonprofit organization will partner with Wal-Mart for their Fight Hunger, Spark Change campaign. The food bank says their supply gets low at the beginning of every year, a condition known as the spring hunger gap.

The campaign with Wal-Mart will help to raise awareness and stock the shelves of the food bank warehouses.

"We serve 26 counties and nine cities here at Feeding America SWVA. We have more than 150,000 people throughout southwest Virginia who face hunger. And nearly 50,000 of those are children. So this is an important campaign to help us fight that hunger," said marketing and communications coordinator Amanda Allen.

There will be electronic signage in all Wal-Mart stores about purchasing participating products. Each product equals one meal donated to Feeding America Southwest Virginia.
