LewisGale opens $6 million emergency room in New River Valley

Hospital leaders said ER will help improve surgery for patients

CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – LewisGale Hospital Montgomery celebrated the opening of its newly renovated emergency room Wednesday.

The renovations cost $6 million and took more than eight months to complete. Some of the facility renovations include expanding the surgical department to accommodate the new da Vinci surgical system.

Hospital leaders said it will help improve surgery for patients.

"It allows people to have very minimally invasive surgery, so where we have open surgery and laparoscopic this one provides faster healing, provides for people to get up and move around a lot quicker, less blood loss, less pain," said Alan Fabian, CEO of LewisGale Hospital Montgomery.

Surgeons are currently learning how to use the da Vinci system.
