ROANOKE – Runners from across Southwest Virginia are preparing to put on their best pink and lace up their running shoes for Saturday's Race for the Cure.

The 5K and 10K races are the biggest fundraiser of the year for Komen Blue Ridge, with a goal to raise more than $320,000 this weekend.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Closer to home, three women in the Komen Blue Ridge affiliate area will die because of breast cancer each week.

It's a cause the Executive Director of Komen Blue Ridge, Catherine Warren, says impacts nearly every person she meets.

"[They say] my mom, my sister, my friend had breast cancer. So it really does affect everyone," says Warren. "That's why we need eeryone to come out and join us. We have a big battle still, 40,000 women across the country will die this year from breast cancer and our goal is to reduce that in the next decade."

The race kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday. There's still time to register, click here for more details.
