10 goats, donkey cut loose in Pittsburgh

After day's work, animals briefly escape

After another day's work clearing vines and weeds from a Pittsburgh park, 10 goats and a donkey went hog wild: They escaped their enclosure until police were called to round them up.

The goats had been in the park since Sept. 25, eating invasive plants to make way for other trail improvements, the Tribune-Review reported. The donkey's job is to guard the goats.

A deer apparently aided in their late-night getaway. Gavin Deming, Allegheny Goatscape's founder and executive director, said a deer ran through a section of the goats's fencing, allowing the animals to walk through the gap and hoof it around town.

Shortly after midnight, someone called 911 on the herd, the Tribune-Review reported

Animal control officers were not on duty when they escaped, so police escorted them back to the gated area, the Tribune-Review reported.
