Bedford (WSLS) Virginia State Police are continuing their investigation into a fatal crash that killed a Bedford County resident this afternoon around 3:40 pm on Route 122 approximately 500 feet south of Route 746 in Bedford County.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a 1998 Dodge Durango that was being operated by Michael Keen Haynes, age 75 of Bedford, Virginia was traveling southbound on Route 221 when he suffered a medical emergency which caused his vehicle to cross the center line.

The vehicle rthen an off the left side of the roadway striking a guard rail and then proceeded through a residential yard before coming to rest up against a tree.
Haynes was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash.
He was transported to Bedford Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
