Police: 20-month-old's death listed as homicide

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Officers with the Danville Police Department are investigating the death of a 20-month-old child, which they're now calling a homicide. 

Police say shortly after 9 p.m. Thursday, November 20 rescue personnel responded to a home along the 100 block of West Woodlawn Drive for the report of an unresponsive child. 

The child, identified as Aleigha Grace Sadler, was taken to Danville Regional Medical Center and subsequently flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment. Both the Danville Police Department's Investigative Division and Child Protective Services were notified and responded. 

Medical staff pronounced Sadler dead Monday afternoon. The body was transported to the Medical Examiner's Office in Roanoke for an autopsy. The cause of the death has been listed as homicide by blunt force trauma. 

The Danville Police Department says they're working closely with Child Protective Services in this case. The investigation is ongoing.
