HILLSVILLE (WSLS) - Carroll County farmers are capitalizing on a crop that is especially popular this time of year.
The county leads Virginia in pumpkin production, and is quickly become one of the top pumpkin producers nationwide.

About 20 years ago, there were less than 50 acres in the area for this crop. Today, there are nearly 4,000 acres.
The pumpkin industry brings in $15-20 million to Carroll County every year.
This year's pumpkin festival in Carroll County brought in nearly 3,000 people, more than double last year's attendance.
