(WSLS 10) - AAA is predicting Wednesday will be one of the busiest travel days for the Thanksgiving holiday, but with winter storms potentially moving into Southwest Virginia, drivers should monitor road conditions.
They say 90 percent of Virginia travelers are expected to drive to their Thanksgiving destination this year.
On Wednesday, road conditions are expected to start out slick and wet from heavy rainfall. There is a potential for snow late Wednesday morning which could lead to icy conditions.
VDOT's Salem District, which is responsible for many roads in Southwest Virginia, was unable to pre-treat the roads Tuesday due to the storm starting out with rain.
Crews will be monitoring road conditions throughout Wednesday and Thursday.
