Drumstick Dash kicks off Thanksgiving morning in Roanoke
ROANOKE (WSLS) - Thousands will be in downtown Roanoke Thursday morning for the 9th Annual Drumstick Dash.
The event raises close to $250,000 for the Roanoke Rescue Mission. That money covers the kitchen budget for an entire year, paying for kitchen staff salaries as well as equipment used to cook food.
The Mission says this event is important this year as it has seen an increase in the number of people it's serving, especially women and children.
Forty different states will have runners represented in the race.
Close to 12,500 people preregistered for the event.
Same day registration starts at 7am.
It cost $20 for walkers and $35 for runners to participate.
