Roanoke County family donates Christmas tree for Roanoke City tree lighting

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Each year WSLS 10 is a proud sponsor of Dickens of a Christmas, and one of the highlights is the lighting of the Roanoke City Christmas tree live during our 6 o'clock news cast.

This year, the Jachimski family has offered  a 25-year-old tree that has outgrown their yard.

Janice Jachimski contacted Roanoke City in August to see if there was any interest in a tree the family planted long ago and has decorated and celebrated over the years.

She says, "They called the first of November and we were so excited.  It is a beautiful tree and I am glad it's last hoorah is going to be the Christmas tree downtown."

Dickens of a Christmas kicks off in downtown Roanoke on Friday December 5.
