ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Three locations in the Roanoke area will offer free HIV Testing on Monday, in recognition of World AIDS Day.

The Drop-In Center located on Campbell Avenue and Carilion's Infectious Disease Center will offer testing from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Gainsboro Family YMCA will also offer testing from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Director of the Drop-In Center, Pam Meador, said it's important to get as many people tested as possible.

In the past three years, there have been a rise in HIV cases across Southwest Virginia. In the last ten years, officials say HIV rates have tripled in the Roanoke Valley.

Meador said the Drop-In Center normally tests about 50 people on World AIDS Day, but with recent increases, she is hoping to test more.

For more information, residents can contact the Drop-In Center at (540) 982-2437. World AIDS day will also be recognized at the 2 p.m. Roanoke City Council meeting.
