December is National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month
CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS) - December 1st kicks off National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month, and local police officers are asking everyone to be responsible on the roads.
In Christiansburg, officers say they encounter about 15 to 20 impaired driving cases every month, and that number always spikes during the holidays.
That is why they step up things like checkpoints and patrols to make sure everyone enjoys themselves safely.
Officers recommend taking advantage of designated driver programs, using public transportation and having a plan to get home before going out.
According to the Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drunk driving accounts for more than 30 percent of accidents nationwide.
