ASHBURN (AP) - Joe Barry is the new defensive coordinator for the Washington Redskins.
The San Diego Chargers' linebackers coach was hired Tuesday by Redskins coach Jay Gruden after a nearly three-week search for a replacement for Jim Haslett.

Barry has been a defensive coordinator once before. He was on the staff of the 2008 Detroit Lions, the only 0-16 team in NFL history.
He has since been a linebackers coach with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Chargers. In between, he coached linebackers at Southern California.
The Redskins heavily courted former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio for the job, but Fangio is the favorite to end up with the Chicago Bears.
The Redskins also interviewed Eric Mangini, Wade Phillips, Ed Donatell and Raheem Morris.
