Congress extends Homeland Security for another week
WASHINGTON D.C. (WSLS) -Congress averts, or at least delays a crisis late Friday evening, after approving funding for the department of homeland security, just hours before the agency would have run out of money.
But the extension is only for one week. With a little more than two hours to spare, congress passed a funding bill that keeps the department of homeland security and a bigger political battle running for another week.
Some house Republicans refuse to give up what they see as a valuable bargaining chip in the fight over President Obama's immigration reforms and executive orders.
The department of homeland security is in limbo for another week, and political analysts say this latest war of wills isn't helping Washington's reputation.
Meanwhile, the clock is ticking down again with DHS funding scheduled to run out at midnight Friday.
