Christiansburg Police kick off traffic safety campaign aimed to reduce accidents
CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - The Christiansburg Police Department is working to reduce the number of accidents in the town through a new traffic safety campaign.
They say the campaign will focus on following too close, a behavior that leads to many accidents each year. Last year, following too close contributed to 30 percent of accidents that occurred in Christiansburg. Officers say they want to see that number drop and will be looking for this specific behavior on the roads.
The Department says they will also push the message through social media and community talks, like local schools.
The slogan for the campaign, "Only a fool breaks the two-second rule", reminds drivers about the minimum time they should leave between their vehicle and others.
The campaign will run until the end of March 2015.
The Christiansburg Police Department plans to hold a new safety campaign each month until August.
