SALEM (WSLS 10) - Two adults and one child are being assisted by the American Red Cross after a fire damaged their home. 

The fire happened at 8:40 a.m. Monday, March 2, 2015 at a residence located at 2200 Mill Lane.

First arriving units found heavy smoke coming from the building. Crews say they found a fire inside the structure and were able to contain it within 20 minutes. The house sustained moderate fire and smoke damage.

Fire officials say all three people were able to escape the house safely. They say one person did suffer a minor injury, but did not need medical treatment. 

About 18 personnel from the Salem Fire & EMS Department responded to the call. The Roanoke County Fire & Rescue Department stood by and answered additional calls while Salem Fire & EMS crews were on the scene.

The fire remains under investigation by the Salem Fire Marshal's Office. There are no damage estimates at this time.
