Film shows history of Fayette Street in Martinsville

Martinsville, Va. (WSLS10) Workers from the New College Institute in Martinsville premiered a film that told the history of Fayette Street.

It's called once upon a time a village on Fayette featuring the oral history of people who used to live there.

The documentary talked about how prominent the Fayette Street was, which housed several African American businesses including Baldwin Block.

It was spot where many African Americans in Martinsville, could relax and go get something to eat.

Many people who watched the documentary hopes the youth will be able to be inspired to bring more businesses back to Fayette Street in the future.
