No one injured when car rear-ended Amherst Co. school bus

MADISON HEIGHTS (WSLS 10) - No students were injured when a Cadillac rear-ended a school bus in Amherst County Monday. 

Virginia State Police said Sr. Trooper E.D. Ferrell responded to the scene of a two-vehicle crash involving a school bus around 3:30 p.m. Monday. It crash occurred on Seminole Drive east of Lakeland Circle.

VSP said an Amherst County school bus stopped in the westbound lane of Seminole Drive. It's flashing lights and stop sign-arm were activated. A student exited the bus and was crossing in front of the bus when a 2002 Cadillac Deville didn't stop in time and rear-ended the bus.

There were 24 students on the bus. No one was injured, including the student getting off the bus. 

The driver of the Cadillac, Robert D. Hamke, 51, of Monroe was not injured in the crash. He was wearing a seatbelt.

Hamke was charged with following too closely.
