DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Two people are being treated for smoke inhalation after their electric blanket shorted out on their bed - sparking a fire.

Fire officials say at 12:40 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, 2015 they were called to a home along Wood Avenue in Danville on reports of a fire.

Upon arrival, crews discovered the fire was extinguished by a person inside the home. The house was checked and a mattress was found still smoking. The mattress was removed and a pillow, fire officials say.

Two people inside the home were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation and taken to Danville Regional Medical Center for further treatment. Fire officials say damage to the house was minor.

A total of 17 personnel responded and were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes. An investigation was conducted and the cause of the fire was determined to be a shorted out electric blanket.
