ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Red Cross is honoring heroes in the community and one woman's dedication to her work landed her on the organization's list of heroes.

Monica Bond is an E911 operator and enjoys her behind-the-scenes role, but her quick thinking brings her actions into the spotlight and made a world of difference for a little boy lost.

On a cold day in March, 2014, Bond helped a police officer find an address for a lost five-year-old standing in front of Glen Cove Elementary who only knew his first name.

Bond quickly thought of calling the school's principal to see if the child sounded familiar.

"She's the one, if I had to call in here I'd want her to take my call, because she is going to go above and beyond. She's going to do every step that she can," explained Beverly Orange, Communications Training Officer.

Bond will be honored with the Red Cross E911 dispatch hero award on March 24 at The Hotel Roanoke.
