Trio of Area 4A Teams Eliminated in Richmond

        Richmond (WSLS)-All three SW Virginia entrants in the Group 4A Ranks were defeated in Richmond on Thursday. The William Fleming Lady Colonels were making a return trip to the semifinals under coach Champ Hubbard. With senior Desiree Keeling, a Rutgers signee, in the post the Colonels had state title hopes in 2015. Monacans had other ideas. They led 37-24 at halftime until a furious William Fleming comeback got the game to one final possession. but Que King's driving shot was blocked by Megan Walker and Monacans hung on for a 58-57 win. They advance to take on Midlothian in the Girls 4A title game. William Fleming finishes 24-5.

    On the boys side, both EC Glass and GW Danville fell in 4A semifinal games. West Region champ EC Glass took King;s Fork's best shots for three quarters, only trailing by one after 3 at 46-45. But King's Fork outscored the Hilltoppers by a 23-13 count in the final quarter for the win. Glass got 22 points from Tai-he Jeter in the loss. Deshaun Wethington led King's Fork with 21 points.

     GW Danville played the entire first quarter against I.C. Norcom without scoring a point. Trailing 7-0, they were only down 18-13 at the half. But Norcom pulled away in half number two behind 20 points from Travis Ingram and 19 from Travis Fields in a 71-59 win. The Eagles finish 19-10 on the season. Tamario Rodgers had 19 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists and 3 steals in a losing cause.
