(WSLS 10) - More than 100 homes were damaged as a result of the recent snow storms and floods in southwest Virginia.

The United Way is stepping up to help families whose homes were damaged with the formation of a disaster relief fund.

The organization said it's committed $25,000 to disaster relief efforts, but officials fear that fixing the damage will take much more.

The United Way said it has been in contact with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to request access to the Virginia Disaster Assistance Fund.

Even with those funds, the United Way said it won't have enough and is turning to the community for help.

Anyone able to donate to the fund can get more information on the United Way's Southwest Virginia Disaster Relief website.
