) - Greenbrier County 911 dispatchers said a 2-year-old child died after falling into a septic tank in Alderson.

It happened around 12:48 PM Tuesday. The child died at the Riverview Exxon car wash. Alderson Police are handling the investigation. Alderson EMS also responded to the scene.

According to Alderson Police Chief Jeremy Bennett, the call came in around 12:45 p.m. of a missing child from the Exxon on Riverview Drive. The child's mother was washing her car when she realized he was gone.

The boy was found in a tank behind the station/ car wash that is used to hold grease waste. Emergency workers removed the child from the tank and performed CPR while in route to Greenbrier Valley Medical Center. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Chief Bennett says the cover of the septic-style tank was partially open and it appears the boy fell in. At this time no charges have been filed but the child's death remains under investigation.
