Officers say the suspect, identified as Brian James Harrison, 30, entered the home through an unlocked rear door, and roused the 78-year-old woman and 77-year-old man from their sleep. He then brandished a handgun and demanded money.

Police say Harrison stole a large sum of U.S. currency and fled the scene.

Lexinton Police Officers say they responded quickly and secured the scene. They say the couple was able to provide a physical description of the suspect and further stated that he was wearing a dark grey sweatshirt with the hood tightly cinched around his face.

During a preliminary investigation, Detective Robert Smith along with members of the Rockbridge County Sheriff's Office, Rockbridge County Jail, and Special Agents with the Drug Task Force executed a search warrant at Harrison's residence recovering drugs, along with evidence from the crime scene.

The Lexington Police Department arrested Harrison on Wednesday, April 1. He's charged with seven felony offenses, and two misdemeanor offenses. He's currently being held at the Rockbridge County Jail.
