HENRY CO. (WSLS 10) - The Henry County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating a fire that destroyed a vacant home in Bassett early Thursday morning.

Fire Marshal James E. Draper Jr., said the fire was reported around 2:30 a.m. Thursday, March 2 at a house located at 2973 Riverside Drive. The house was abandoned and reportedly was run down and sat there for years.

Upon arrival, firefighters with Bassett and Henry County Volunteer Fire Departments observed the structure fully engulfed in flames. It took crews around three and a half to four hours to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported.

The fire is under active investigation at this time by the Fire Marshal's Office. So far, officials say they've found no natural causes to the fire. They said no utilities were hooked up to the house, and the structure was not connected to electricity.

The Henry County Department of Public Safety, the Sheriff's Office, VDOT, and Bassett Rescue Squad also responded to this incident.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call the Henry County Public Safety Office, Henry County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers (63-CRIME).
