PULASKI COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Noah Thomas' parents, Paul Thomas and Ashley White, were arrested Thursday afternoon.
Paul Thomas' sister, Stephanie Hudgins, says she is still shocked by the news.
She remembers her brother Paul and his son Noah together saying their bond was close.
"Noah called his dad his best buddy, and Paul called Noah his best pal," says Hudgins.
It's a close relationship Hudgins says is also shared with Noah's mom.
She says they all loved going to the park and spending time with one another.
"They're the best parents," says Hudgins. "They're the best parents I know hands down."
She said that's why she was so surprised when she found out the parents were arrested Thursday.
"It was very shocking," says Hudgins. "We're dealing with it as a family. We don't really know what to say or do."
Both parents were charged with two counts of abuse and neglect of children. Investigators say the charges were based on the information and evidence they gathered so far.
Hudgins says the news is heartbreaking for the family especially since they are still coping with the loss of Noah.
She wants people to not judge their family that's gone through so much the past few weeks and leave it to officials to find answers to many questions.
"As far as what happened I don't know," says Hudgins. "I can't even speculate right now, but I know that they're hurting and that this is the worst nightmare for any parent."
Despite everything that's happened, she says her family is focused on taking time together to properly grieve over a young boy lost too soon.
