Damaged utility poll causes traffic headache in Christiansburg
CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - A damaged utility pole in the 3000 block of Peppers Ferry Road in Christiansburg caused headaches for drivers Friday evening.
The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office crews had stabilized the utility pole/lines, allowing them to temporarily open the roadway at Peppers Ferry Road. The roadway would remain open during rush hour traffic.
The roadway would then be closed again for 15 to 30 minutes around 7:00 p.m. to finalize the repairs.
According to VDOT, a power line was down across Route 114 (Peppers Ferry Road) in Montgomery County near its intersection with Route 685 (Prices Fork Road). Route 114 was completely closed, so drivers should seek alternate routes.
Eastbound Route 114 traffic traveling from Radford toward Christiansburg could use Prices Fork Road as an alternate route.
Westbound Route 114 traffic was turned around at Route 659 (Vickers Switch) to go eastbound on Route 114 toward Christiansburg and could take local routes to Route 460.
No estimated time for reopening Route 114 had been established. For updates on this incident, visit www.511Virginia.org.
