Weekend of events scheduled for 150th anniversary of Appomattox Court House

APPOMATTOX (WSLS 10) - The US Postal Service will issue a new stamp, concluding its series commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

One stamp will feature the Battle of Five Forks near Petersburg on April 1, 1985. Another depicts Robert E. Lee's surrender to Ulysses S. Frant at the Appomattox Court House on April 9.

A dedication ceremony will be held on April 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Appomattox County Courthouse. Sesquicentennial events are happening throughout Virginia the same week to commemorate the end of the Civil War 150 years ago. A

The Lynchburg Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau (LRCVB) in partnership with Appomattox County is sponsoring free, round-trip shuttle service from Lynchburg to Appomattox for Sesquicentennial commemoration events. View the park-and-ride schedule here.
