Roanoke Rescue Mission teams up with Manna Ministries to deliver food boxes to local families
Dozens of local families received a special Easter weekend treat. For the first time, the Roanoke Rescue Mission teamed up with Manna Ministries to distribute food boxes.
Organizers said pancakes, sausages, medical screenings and boxes full of food staples were the order of the day Saturday morning as the Rescue Mission hosted its first Manna Mission Ministry grocery box distribution. The Rescue Mission teamed up with Manna Ministries in order to keep the 15 year-old program, formerly located in Vinton, from closing its doors.
According to Manna staff, nearly 1500 families were served last year. 125 households were served, including 71 cats and 83 dogs, and 132 boxes were handed out Saturday at the Rescue Mission.
